Polymeric Flooring Compared with Peel Off Mats.

GlaxoSmithKline logo
The results provided by Research Microbiologist at GlaxoSmithKline demonstrated that Dycem's contamination control flooring was over 99% effective at preventing wheel and footborne, viable and non-viable particulates from entering the critical manufacturing area. Whereas the alternative system evaluated 'The Peel-Off Mat' collected and retained only 27%.

Polymeric Flooring and its effectiveness in controlling airborne particles and microbes.

Microstat laboratories
Research by Larry Ranta at Microstat laboratories (formerly M-Con laboratories) in California highlighted that Dycem's decontamination mats reduced both viable and non viable airborne particle counts by up to 60%. This will directly lead to higher product quality and product yields.

Polymeric Flooring to reduce contamination in a cleanroom changing area at the National Blood Service.

National Blood Service
This paper describes a study undertaken in a biopharmaceutical manufacturing facility, within the National Blood Service as part of The National Health Service. The study centred on the reduction of microbial contamination from the footwear of staff and trolley wheels where they access a first-step change area. The study demonstrated that microbial counts into the access corridor significantly reduced, by approximately 80% percent, following the fitting of polymeric flooring.

Reducing Foot and Wheel Contamination in a Pharmaceutical Setting.

A major Midwest pharmaceutical company with hundreds of employees was about to open up a substantial expansion to their production areas. Multiple products would be processed in the same facility and regulatory inspectors raised very real concerns about cross contamination possibilities.

Comparative Study on Two Floor Cover Materials.

The work described in this study was carried out at the centre for Drug Formulation studies at the University of Bath in the UK, utilising its Class 10,000 cleanroom suite. This paper compares the efficacy in reducing the number of viable and non-viable particles of a polymeric floor cover with that of a Peel-off (tacky) Mat.

Particle Shedding from Tacky Mats.

This paper compares a variety of different Peel off Mats in relation to their effectiveness at retaining particulate during the peeling or ripping process. The conclusion is shattering, literally hundreds of thousands of particles can easily be redistributed back into the air a major concern for the contamination control industry.

Stamping out Particles.

Techpapers of current practice suggest that particulate contamination can reduce product yield by as much as 20%. To remain competitive, continued research must be directed towards the progressive reduction and control of particulate from all potential sources.

The Evaluation of the Dycem Screen for removal of microbial contamination from dust laden surfaces, Dr. N.A Hodges B.Pharm. P

This paper documents a report by Dr. N.A Hodges B.Pharm. Ph.D.M.P.S at the Department of Pharmacy, Brighton Polytechnic. It describes the effectiveness of Dycem Screens in effectively removing microbial contamination from the wheels of a laboratory trolley. In excess of 90% of contamination was removed immediately after installation.

A review of studies relating to the use of Dycem systems as a means of microbiological contamination control.

Published in August 1982, the paper presents the results of a lowered bacterial count in a hospital ward after a Dycem mat had been installed and had retained micro-organisms from trolley wheels. Includes a full description of the study conducted, including the relevance of cleaning. Conclusions suggest Dycem consistently reduced bacterial counts on wheels and shoes by 80-90%.

Bacterial Contamination Control Mats: A Comparative Study, H.M.Meddick.

H.M. Meddick documents a study undertaken in 1977, published in the Journal of Hygiene, Vol. 79. The paper describes a comparative study between six different types of contamination control mats currently in use at the entrance to theatre suites and clean rooms. Marked differences in their effectiveness were obtained and results suggest Dycem contamination control to be extremely effective in removing bacteria and highly cost efficient.

The Design and Construction of Flooring in Gowning and Associated Areas.

A paper presented by Martin Hazlewood of How Air Ltd at the 10th International Symposium of Contamination Control, Zurich. The study examined several methods of contamination control flooring including vinyl flooring, epoxy, polyester and polyurethane flooring, raised perforated flooring, washable tacky flooring and static-dissipative flooring. Conclusive results suggest the use of active flooring was most effective in minimising the entry particulate.
