Contamination Control

Radiation protection is an essential part of a Nuclear Power Plant’s safety. The provision of adequate protection against radiation and contamination is required for both normal operations & planned maintenance as well as for unplanned events in order to protect the workers on site & members of the public off site.

There are strict standards and regulations set for protecting persons entering & working in potentially contaminated areas. There are physical barriers, administrative controls & tried & tested working procedures as well as washing & monitoring facilities which are all designed to prevent the spread of contamination beyond the boundaries of each area.

The use of Dycem would provide benefits in limiting and controlling the spread of contamination.

Bullet Dycem will help reduce the numbers of foot/shoe borne personal contamination events.

Bullet Dycem will help to reduce the likelihood of contamination spread occurring by trapping and retaining any shoe borne contamination.

Bullet Dycem will help keep work areas cleaner by trapping loose dirt which may also be associated with radioactive contamination.

Many nuclear stations use large quantities of peel off mats for controlling the spread of contamination. However, the peel-off mats are costly to use, their performance deteriorates very quickly & they create a disposal problem as they have to be disposed of as solid low level waste or incinerated.

The installation of the Dycem CleanZone flooring in two busy exit routes from their controlled area has reduced the waste output.
