Contaminants are invisible bacteria or organisms that are potentially harmful to their surroundings.
From pharmaceutical laboratories to automotive manufacturing, hospitals to food processing units, optical clinics, nutraceuticals to IT research centres and many more, there’s a growing problem in critical environments - contamination.
Contaminants are invisible bacteria or organisms that are potentially harmful to their surroundings. Contamination can be known by a variety of different terms depending on the industry, such as; particles, pathogens, allergens, micro- organisms, airborne molecular contaminants (AMC's) and bacteria.
Yet, contamination from foot, wheel and airborne microbial particles are something we often dismiss as “dust” or “dirt”. The dangers it poses can be devastating. .
It’s not what we can see, it’s what we can’t...
A single microbe in a batch of aseptic drugs could cause the entire batch to be quarantined or scrapped, leading to supply shortages, financial consequences, product recalls, FDA warning letters or even company shutdown.
When we can’t see particles, there is the tendency to ignore taking preventative measures, but somewhere which might appear clean can potentially be heavily contaminated, as most harmful contaminants are invisible to the naked eye. Some contaminants are capable of living, developing or germinating under favourable conditions (viable), whereas some contaminants are not (non-viable).
Threats to your Business
Contamination in a critical environment is a major threat to quality, product yield, effectiveness and productivity. It can often result in:
Microbial contamination has serious consequences for life sciences. One microbe in a batch of aseptic drugs can threaten the whole batch, leading to it being quarantined or scrapped.
Contamination can result in manufacturing downtime and loss of consumer confidence. Many companies have encountered a significant loss of business as a result of rejected and recalled goods.
Product yield impact
Contamination can have an extremely negative impact on product yields. The results of consequent reworking has a significant effect on profitability and operational effectiveness.
Hospital acquired infections
Contamination in operating theatres, ITUs and recovery areas can provide a significant increase in risk of hospital acquired infections such as MRSA.
Takeda were looking to reduce the risk of cross contamination via the footwear of employees entering the production areas through the cloakroom/changing areas and back in the other direction. After installation, it was quoted that "Dycem flooring systems have considerably limited the spread of contamination by employees moving from the production area to the cloakrooms/changing areas". The installation of Dycem has resulted in a sizeable reduction in cross contamination of dust transported by employees.
Like many facilities, Actavis wanted to reduce the risk of cross contamination in their critical environments. As they work with several different products, cross contamination poses a very high risk that can have long-term mass production effects in image and cost. Actavis chose to implement our Workzone solution in a wall to wall installation allowing for full particle control. The exceptional performance of Dycem in powder retention is reducing the risk of cross contamination for Actavis, who can rest assured that there is no better solution than Dycem.
Are you currently using peel off mats?
Peel off mats can seem like an ideal short term solution for your facility. But in truth, they can cause more harm than good.
